Many PC and MacBook users utilize Splashtop Wired XDisplay, a productivity software for Android and iOS, to add monitors to their respective devices. However, they report issues with this tool such as sudden “blank” screens, connectivity problems, and poor performance.

In this article, we discuss common Splashtop Wired XDisplay issues and provide solutions to get rid of them.

Common Issues with Splashtop Wired XDisplay

Some problems with Splashtop Wired XDisplay are caused by poorly configured settings, system incompatibility, or network issues. These problems can be classified as follows:

  • • Splashtop Wired XDisplay app crashing/unresponsive

This happens when the user opens the application but it eventually crashes (or terminates). It is also possible that the app won’t open at all. Some users simply restart their computer to fix the issue, but this is often ineffective.

  • • App Black/White Screen

The device (e.g. smartphone or tablet) connected to a machine shows a blank screen instead of mirroring or extending the display. This is usually due to installation or compatibility issues.

  • • Connection Issues

Using faulty networks or misconfigured software can hinder the app from pairing with other devices. It may also lead to time-out errors or sudden disconnection during sessions.

  • • App Poor and Laggy Performance

This occurs when poor connections between devices lead to lag in reception and display. Old hardware and outdated drivers may also cause this problem.

  • • Splashtop Wired XDisplay not extending display

Even when disabled, the app remains in mirror mode. One possible fix is installing a Virtual Display Driver, which might not work on some devices.

How to Fix Splashtop Wired XDisplay Issues

Quick Solutions

If Splashtop Wired XDisplay encounters connectivity or incompatibility issues (that may lead to app crashes or laggy performance), you can perform these steps below:

  1. If your mobile device (e.g. Android/iOS device) won’t connect to your machine (e.g. PC or Mac), check if the app and the desktop client are updated. Otherwise, install the updated versions.
  2. Enable “USB Debugging” in the Developer Options to allow the app to connect via ADB.
  3. Outdated or missing USB drivers on your PC can block the connection. Update or manually install the drivers, if needed.

Solution 1: Enable USB Tethering on Android

In case the USB Debugging feature is already enabled, but the app still won’t connect or launch, you can try activating USB Tethering:

  1. With a USB cable, connect your Android device to your computer
  2. Open Settings on your Android device.
  3. Navigate to Network & Internet → Hotspot & Tethering.
  4. Enable USB Tethering.

Once enabled, relaunch the app and attempt to connect again. If the issue persists, restart your Android device or reinstall the application.

Solution 2: Run in Compatibility Mode

Supposed that Mirror Mode is already disabled and you have Virtual Display Driver installed, but the app still cannot extend the display, you can try running the app’s Compatibility Mode:

  1. Search the application file.  In most Windows devices, you can spot it at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Wired XDisplay\Agent\SWXDAgent.exe
  2. Right-click SWXDAgent.exe and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  4. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  5. Select Windows 7.

Apply the changes and try again.

Solution 3: Update iTunes

It’s important to have the latest version of iTunes installed in your iPhone or iPad if you’ll connect it to a Windows PC using Splashtop Wired XDisplay. Otherwise, it will lead to Splashtop Wired XDisplay Connection Issues.

To check for updates, open iTunes on your PC, go to Help > Check for Updates, select iTunes, and click Install 1 item.
